About Frostwhore

Forgotten for three decades

Frostwhore was a Norwegian avantgarde black metal band formed in 1992 by Herrenvolk & Birchsteel from Voiebyen, Kristiansand. The duo experimented with disharmonies and noise as a base of their musical expression. The band eventually split up in 1995. They were considered lost & forgotten for almost 30 years, until Birchsteel cleaned out his garage and re-discovered the music. Birchsteel first made four tracks available on Youtube & Spotify in April 2022, and then started the work of digitizing all their music and making it publicly available.

In February of 1992, composer Herrenvolk and singer/lyricist Birchsteel started Frostwhore. The band would go on to make their own form of noise-ridden black metal and perform a few live-shows. They recorded their untitled demo-tape in 1993, consisting of three songs. In 1994 they recorded a six track EP aptly named "Nineteenninetywhore", as well as a cover of Burzums "War". 1995 saw their two final recordings before the band split up, "Hail Victory", and "Lucifer Bless Us", the only song where Herrenvolk performed the lyrics. Not for a lack of trying, Frostwhore never secured a record deal, and their music eventually faded into obscurity. In December of 2020, Herrenvolk sadly passed away due to complications from COVID-19. Birchsteel released all their recorded tracks in memory of his friend.
On October 18th 2023, Birchsteel was found deceased in his home. He was 45 years old.
